Same Sex Marriages; My Position

Sexuality has over the years been an issue that has caused people to raise their eyebrows, particularly with the forms of sex that stand as exceptional from the normal act which is between a man and a woman. With time progression, circumstances and beliefs have created some form of compromise that has led to the “weird” forms of sex being accepted in the society. This nature of freedom has been granted to the homosexual people on the basis of the fact that this is a free world, a right that homosexual people have had to champion for in order to be granted their freedom.

Those against the practice of gay marriages have had the following reasons to state in favor of their idealism. One is the fact that all sex marriages create confusion among children who fail to understand how reproduction should occur in such a marriage setting. The morality of young minds is also eroded since the issue leaves the point blank fact that it is normal to be in a homosexual relationship.

The whole idea of gay marriages is also contrary to what religion teaches. The Bible only caters for the institution of marriage between a man and a woman which is also the case in most traditional definitions of the nature of marriages that a society accepts. Going contrary to this is treated as sacrilegious.

Scientifically and religiously speaking, the essence of marriage is for procreation. This has always ensured the growth of the human population which is required for the balance of the ecosystem and for the obvious reason of labor provision. With the legalization of same sex marriages, no reproduction is expected to occur hence the human population is bound to gradually decrease which of course would do more harm than good.

Some people also argue that legalization of gay marriages would also create the opportunity for people with other non-traditional sexual preferences to champion for their rights. Such include incestuous marriages and even more weirdly group marriages. The underlying fact is that this legalization would only lead to the opening of the doors to immoral sexual practices which compromises the morality of upcoming generations.

The fact that a man and woman are involved in the traditionally recognized marriage means that a child born in such a setting enjoys the access to a mother and father figure which is very crucial for the upbringing of such a child. In the case of gay marriage, the confusion is obviously created since at some stage the child understands that its parents are homosexual and it becomes hard to distinguish the roles of each parent.

Many still treat gay marriages with disgust, but with time the numbers are telling a different tale altogether: more and more people are buying the idea of the practice being okay after all. Taking a look through the prism of those championing for the existence of gay marriages reveals some overlooked positives that gay people associate with their marriages. A very obvious fact is that every being should be entitled to love in the form that they need it most. In the instance that love is channeled from someone of the same sex, then the legalization of same sex marriage only works to ensure that gay people are not left out.

The other reason is based on the fact legal marriages entitle couples to several benefits including tax benefits. The legalization of gay marriages means that they too are entitled to such benefits which would be otherwise unavailable in the instance where gay were not legalized.

The fact that constitutions are meant to champion for the rights of all citizens regardless of their sexual affiliations, failing to legalize gay marriages would only work to create the picture of a failing government in terms of equality of rights. Most governments have in this case been left with no other option but to legalize gay marriages to avoid being placed in a spotlight for the violation of the rights a section of its citizens; gay people.

Gay people also put forward the claim that their rights are largely denied on the basis of religion. They thus shift the blame to religion being unfair for objection of their opinions to favor the few people who don’t want to go a step further into having an “open mind”.

In conclusion, the question of how good or bad these marriages are has obviously shifted from the reliance on the societal ethical and moral code to the freedom that is constitutionally granted, and more so to the free will of an individual.
